The last time Flavio Villani performed at Waiheke Musical Museum was with the Orion Piano Trio and the concert a full house. Luckily for us he’s returning, this time as a soloist. His concert theme is Preludes, Revised. Flavio will pair most of the Chopin Preludes with his own reinterpretations.
For those who have not heard him yet, Flavio moved to New Zealand in 2008 to follow his dream to pursue a music career and in 2012 he completed a Master in Piano Performance at the University of Auckland with first class honours under the guidance of pianist Stephen De Pledge. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Waikato, with Katherine Austin as supervisor. His doctoral research focuses on the methodologies of improvisation used within Classical music.
Flavio has won various prestigious awards, performed in festivals all over the world, and is founder and Director of L’Accademia Music School in Auckland where he teaches piano and organizes and promotes events and masterclasses collaborating with various local and international musicians.
