Toru Trio comprises Ingrid Bauer (Harp), Karen Batten (Flute), and Sophia Acheson (Viola). Formed in 2015, Toru Trio is a dynamic chamber music trio presenting beautiful music for this intriguing combination of instruments.
Ingrid Bauer (Harp)
Ingrid Bauer is making her mark on the classical music scene with her lyrical and colourful interpretations of both standard and new repertoire. As a soloist, Ingrid has performed with the Australian National Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra, Wellington Youth Orchestra and the Kapiti Concert Orchestra.
Karen Batten (Flute)
Karen is a graduate of Victoria University, and continued her studies at the State University of New York. She is Principal Flute for Orchestra Wellington and frequently works with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, she has performed concertos with the Wellington Chamber Orchestra, Kapiti Chamber Orchestra and Wellington Youth Orchestra.
Sophia Acheson (Viola)
Sophia is from Christchurch and studied performance viola in Wellington. She studied in Barcelona and had scholarships to study at the University of Southern California and later at the University of Texas. She furthered an interest in early music, learning the viola d’amore and viola da gamba. She is principal violist of Orchestra Wellington.
